With rising health care costs and internal and external pressures, it is critical health care organizations create a strategic plan that is flexible, adapts to the rapidly changing environment, and facilitates innovation (McAlearney & Kovner, 2014). Additionally, highly antiretroviral therapy (HAART) in the treatment of HIV has been extremely costly to Departments of Corrections. Through a partnership with a Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH), which is also a 340B provider, New Jersey’s Department of Corrections (NJDOC) has recently been able to obtain savings in treating patients with HIV. This session will present and discuss NJDOC’ strategic approach and implementation of a 340B arrangement.
