PS11: Reentry: "The Impact of Peer Mentoring and College Education on Self- Efficacy and Reintegration"

This session will present findings from mixed-methods data collected over a 3-year period on the impact of peer mentoring and college education in a group of formerly incarcerated adults (n=26). Qualitative findings revealed that 1) the structure of school is beneficial to both recovery and reduced criminal behavior; 2) academic success enhances self-efficacy; 3) the challenges to academic success are both practical and intangible; and 4) peer support is essential to academic success. Quantitative findings revealed high levels of self-efficacy at baseline across all assessed domains that increased over time except for self-regulated learning and drug and alcohol use self-efficacies. Implications of these findings will be discussed with a focus on the differences and similarities between qualitative and quantitative findings.
